On September 3rd we celebrated the launch of the Partnership network with our first professional development day for the principals, teachers and staff. This exciting event included a presentation from Executive Director, Jill Kafka. She discussed the network’s mission and goals, introduced the Partnership team, and explained the crucial role of school professionals in helping inner-city students break the cycle of poverty.
The presentation was followed by a day of academic programming for the teachers and principals. Divided by grades and subject areas, the school professionals attended sessions lead by our Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Rosetta Wilson and consultants from the Cooke Center for Learning and Development, Legacy Pathways, and the New York Hall of Science. Sessions included Getting to Common Core: Order of Operations Bridging Number Sense and Algebra, Setting the Stage for Cohesive Instructional Practices, and Essential Learnings in Science and Developing Thematic Science Centers.
Concurrently, the schools’ operations professionals took part in all day sessions led by Kwame Millar, COO, George Grenier, Director of Facilities, and H.Kay Merriman, Operations Associate. The break-out groups included front office roles and responsibilities, facilities management, and fiscal policies and procedures.
All attendees exited the Partnership Development Day energized and enthusiastic and with a clear vision of the Partnership’s goals.
