New Beginnings

September 9, 2013

Every first day of school is a new beginning.  Students enter their school buildings with an extra bounce in their step in anticipation of the upcoming year.

Today is also a new beginning for the Partnership for Inner-City Education as we launch our network of six pre-k through 8th grade inner-city elementary schools in Harlem and the south Bronx.   Just like our students, the Partnership team is filled with excitement as we have been preparing for this first day of school for over a year.  We are thrilled to be finally putting our plans and our 20 years of experience with inner-city Catholic schools into action.

Here are just a few of the ways we are already working to advance our network goals to raise achievement levels and strengthen school operations and finances:

  • Hired an experienced Chief Academic Officer and Chief Operating Officer to join the Partnership’s central management team
  • Hosted a full-day of professional development for all Partnership network faculty and leaders
  • Added extended academic day at two Partnership schools; all network schools will now offer 1.5 additional hours of English language arts and math instruction Monday through Thursday
  • Expanded programming to ensure that all students have art, music, and physical education during the school week and robust afterschool activities
  • Hired school operations managers for each Partnership school, enabling principals more time for instructional leadership
  • Began major capital repairs and spruce up projects at the schools
  • Created new logos, visual identities, and websites for the six schools and the Partnership

We look forward to sharing more updates about Partnership network schools and students as our network plans unfold.  In the interim, we encourage you to visit the new Partnership and school websites.
